Finding Prints by Artist/Title

Artist Selection:

The Artist Selection Box is a static text box at the top of the Artist Window containing the Artist List.

To find the artist you wish to select, you can scroll up or down this window, use the page up, page down keys, or enter the artists name in the Artist Selection Box and click on the Go button (or hit the enter key). More artists may be available than those that are currently displayed in the window. Clicking the ">>" button, if available, will take you to the next set of artists. Clicking the "<<" button, if available, will take you to the previous screen.

Until you are familiar with the program, when you enter an artists name we recommend that you enter only the first 4 to 6 letters of the LAST name, as if you spell it incorrectly the program will not return your desired artist. So for example, typing in REMBR takes you to Rembrandt. If you wanted Rembrandt [after] you would find it the next entry down.

If you want to “browse” artists alphabetically, just type in the alphabetical letter (e.g. C) and the program will take you to the first artist with a last name starting with that letter (in this example, the Cs).

You may also perform wildcard searches. Typing in *BRAN* will return all of the artists with names containing the string "BRAN", including Rembrandt.

Keep in mind if Rembrandt is not an artist in the current database, you will not see Rembrandt in the list. This is only an example used for illustrative purposes.

Summary Information:

Once you have found your artist, to bring up that artists prints you must click on the artists name.

This window, with its grid-like appearance, gives you the summary “at a glance” essential information about each print by that artist. The title, the sale date*, the U.S. dollar value, the sale type, and the catalogue raisonne reference number(s) are given. Sale types are: sold, buy-in, offered, NR (not reported), WD (withdrawn), and SA (sold after sale). Please refer to the How to Use the Book section of the Book Information area in the help file for an in-depth discussion of sale types and how they are treated.

You can scroll up or down this list or use the page up, page down keys. More titles may be available than those that are currently displayed in the window. Clicking the ">>" button, if available, will take you to the next set of prints. Clicking the "<<" button, if available, will take you to the previous screen.

To find a particular print, type the name of the title in the Title Search box. Again, like the artist search, you do not need to enter the full name of the print and you may perform wildcard searches. Typing in *IGHT will return all of the prints by this artists with titles containing the string "IGHT", including "Night".

To browse the prints of a particular artist, type in the letter of the alphabet where you wish to start. If you want to browse all of an artists prints that begin with A, just enter A or A*.

Clicking on any particular title automatically brings up the detail of that print, in the window below. In addition, a thumbnail image of the print, if available, and a thumbnail image of the auctioneer/dealer advertisement pertaining to this print record will display in the Images Window.

Detail Information:

Greater detail on a particular print is given in the smaller window that appears directly underneath the summary window. The amount of information in this window will vary according to what was available from the auction catalogue. As we are constantly increasing the depth of our entries, the more recent years will see greater detail (condition, impression, paper, etc.). This information will parallel that in the book, with the exception that we have the luxury of correcting entries on this disc. In the case of any discrepancies between the data in the book and on the disc, the disc takes precedence.

Pricing information, in greater depth, appears to the left of the detail window. The sale type is noted, along with prices in dollars, euro, pounds, and marks. The currency of sale is bolded. If the sale was in a currency other than these four, that currency is listed as a fifth entry, under the mark price. The highlighted currency and price indicate the native (uncalculated) currency of the entry. Again, please refer to the Book section of the help file, under How to Use the Book, for a greater discussion of currencies, codes, etc.

*NOTE: In a select few instances the sale date is not available. For these situations the sale date field will be blank and the summary window will say “Sale Date Not Available”.
